The first year of my caregiving. November 10, 2013. The glint in Mom’s eye no doubt her thinking of all the dishes & treats she will cook and bake for Thanksgiving Day.
Mom passed away last year — February 23, 2019.
Today — February 5, 2020 — would have been her 90th birthday.
Which makes today — her 1st birthday after passing — as good a day as any (and better than most) to make my first post on Instagram.
Synergy and Grace (my new NGO) is my latest “phoenix,” rising out of the ashes of my caregiving for Mom (2013-2019), as well as my previous NPO, Run with Joe (2012-2016). I try to bring synergy to the table. Mom serves up the grace.
Our focus is the worldwide water crisis. Millions of people lack access to fresh water. Millions of children lose millions of hours in school because they are collecting water.
Synergy and Grace partners with individuals, organizations, schools, and communities — both here in the States, as well as in other countries. We currently work in Uganda, with plans to return soon to Cambodia (ditto Viet Nam and India). Our focus is fresh water access. But don’t be surprised if you find us on a football (soccer) pitch or at a chessboard, for not all languages are verbal. A clown might even make an appearance.
There will also be art exchanges between students in America and students in other countries, because we believe cultural bridges to be sturdy enough for a truckload of hopes and dreams.
If you’d like find out how you can help, drop us a message. Feel free to follow us here on Instagram, as well as on LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook.
On Instagram, we will typically post a “Photo of the Day.” And now, I will settle into the first February 5th in a long time that I haven’t said “Happy Birthday, Mom.” Though truth be told, I already have said it. 🎂🎂🎂
